We are happy to announce that Prof. Abbas Amanat from Yale University will present a lecture entitled “Tahereh Qorrat al-‘Ayn (1817-1852): A Messianic Proto-feminist’s Encounters with Modernity” on 7 October 2021 in Utrecht. Tahereh Qorrat al-ʿAyn was a poet, women’s right activist and key figure of the Iranian religious reform movement known as Babism. Executed on charges of heresy, she is, to this day, an admired and controversial figure.

Prof. Amanat is William Graham Sumner Professor of History at Yale University and Director of the Yale Program in Iranian Studies. See this for more information about him.

The event takes place at Drift 21, Room 032 in Utrecht city centre at 17:15 – 19:00. Please note that the maximum of 75 people can attend due to Covid-19 regulations.
